Dear Parent or Guardian of a Herndon High Student:

The Herndon High School Sports Booster Club (Sports Booster Club) would like to welcome your family to the upcoming 2010-2011 school year. If you already have students at Herndon High, you realize the outstanding job the athletic department does providing an excellent sports program for our children. If you are new to Herndon, you will be amazed at the number of teams supported by the school. The fall sports program includes football, field hockey, cheerleading, cross country, girl’s volleyball, and golf. The winter sports program includes basketball, girl’s gymnastics, wrestling, indoor track and field, and swimming/diving. In the spring, baseball, softball, soccer, lacrosse, track and field, and tennis compete. There are many opportunities for your child to find a place on one or more of these teams. There are opportunities to participate with club level sports as well, such as the boy’s volleyball, and hockey teams. Please check out our website at www.herndonathletics.org.

The athletic programs at all Fairfax County schools are funded from gate receipts and sports booster clubs. The county only covers the cost for coaches, game officials, and transportation. The Funding provided by the Sports Booster Club is vital to prevent further cuts to the Herndon High athletic programs.   In these lean budget years, it is important that the Sports Boosters Club remain strong. As you may know, in last year’s cost-cutting budget it was decided that an athletic fee of $100.00 will be assessed to every student athlete for every sport they participate in. This fee will just keep us at status quo for most sports (we lost winter cheer, dance team, and swimming received cuts). We ask you to be an advocate of the Sports Booster Club and to show your support of this worthwhile organization and our student athletes. We also ask that you encourage the parents from your child’s teams to join.

During the 2009-2010 school year, the Sports Booster Club raised over $45,000 of the approximate $90,000 needed to support the 700 students that participate in the athletic programs. We’ve shown our commitment this year to Herndon’s sports program by leading the way, along with other Herndon community organizations, through the installation of two turf fields. Please show that you’d like to be a part of strengthening Herndon High’s sports program by following through with your membership and support.

We invite you to join Herndon’s Sports Booster Club at one of the membership levels shown below.  In addition to the support you give the program, your individual benefits are also listed below.
